The Story

This is a 27 Inch Hand-Hammered Nepali Temple Gong One of a Kind

Nepali temple gongs are hand-hammered in the Kathmandu Valley by bronze craftsmen specialists.

This one is 27 inches across, hammered from a bronze in the bell-metal family, patinated dark, and finished with a full iconography that is unique to this one gong.

The central feature of this gong is a large eight-petal lotus mandala.

A geometric flower-of-life pattern fills the center of the field, with eight pointed lotus petals extending around it. Each petal is filled with fine scrolling vine work. A second flower-of-life pattern sits behind the lotus form, and the surrounding field includes circular medallions with lotus designs and endless-knot style symbols.

The tone here is centered around a low A2, with a nearby G#2 partial underneath it and a clear C#3 above it that gives the sound a bright upper edge.

Played with a soft mallet it opens with more activity in the upper partials before settling into the low voice. The early shimmer is more present than on a darker, simpler bass gong, and the higher color gives the strike a defined front edge.

The character is low and active at the same time, with the A2 voice holding the body while the C#3 and higher partials add movement through the first part of the sustain.

Playing will favor a single clean strike and a controlled roll that brings out the layered partials without crowding the tone. It sounds like a different instrument depending on how you choose to play it.

At The Ohm Store every instrument is selected as a resonator first and a visual object second.

There is only one gong available like this, and you're receiving the exact gong that's pictured and recorded here.

This gong does not include a gong stand.
